Advance notice
Earlier this week I was informed by the management of Stoke Recreation Centre that due to local and national spending cuts to council services, it is highly likely that Stoke Recreation Centre will close at the end of this financial year (31 March 2011).
Many of you, who are regulars to my class, will already by aware of this from my announcement during the class yesterday. The intended closure of the Recreation Centre has been a possibility for quite some time now with plenty of people opposed to the closure of the centre. Last year I even spoke on BBC Radio Stoke along with others who use the centre stating our disappointment at the intended closure. At least for a short time after this, the centre remained open. However, now due to the extent of the severe financial spending cuts both locally and nationally, the inevitable it seems has come about.
The closure of Stoke Recreation Centre will mark the end of the Thursday night yoga class at this venue, ending almost 15 years yoga tuition at this venue, of which I have taught for 7 years. However, do not despair! I am currently making enquiries into other venues locally and will make an announcement when I have something arranged. I am looking at being able to teach on the same day (Thursday evenings) at about the same time. Unfortunately, as a new class seems highly likely to be privately run (as opposed to council run), fees for the class will rise slightly to reflect this and cover running costs which I will incur. I will announce further details of this when I have arranged another venue.
Please contact me if you currently attend the class (or even if you don’t attend) and have any ideas for future venues, or any questions generally.
Check back soon for further updates on the situation, and unless you hear otherwise, for the meantime (at least until the end of March it seems) all Thursday night classes are continuing as usual!
Peace and light,
Adam
